MPLAB® Harmony 2.0 - Full-featured firmware development framework for PIC32 microcontrollers

Microchip Technology Inc. has announced that MPLAB® Harmony 2.0, a full-featured firmware development framework for PIC32 microcontrollers, is now available for free download from the Microchip web site. This award-winning software platform has been upgraded to enable customers to develop more streamlined and efficient code that makes devices faster and more cost effective. In addition to better quality code, this upgrade adds a number of new tools that can be used in the MPLAB X Integrated Development Environment (IDE).

MPLABHarmony is a free software framework and tool suite from Microchip's MPLAB X IDE and works with the MPLAB XC32 compiler. The MPLAB Harmony framework is suitable for PIC32 solutions and provides a library of peripherals, drivers and system services to support application development. The software also includes a board support package for the PIC32 development board.

Among the many upgrades to Harmony 2.0, there are the latest enhancements, including the new Graphics Composer suite, for creating graphical user interfaces (GUIs) quickly and easily. Enhanced Graphics Composure suite adds tools for graphical asset usage management, image transformation, including format conversion, compression and editing, additional tools and a revised WYSIWYG engine for more accurate design Go to the production GUI representation, as well as a new display manager to accommodate non-standard displays.

MPLABHarmony 2.0 also extends the existing peripheral code base and is upgraded to meet the MISRA-C: 2012 mandatory standard. The upgrade to the software framework also includes additional tools and support, such as the Board Support Package (BSP) Manager, stand-alone project export, and an upgraded pin manager. All of these upgrades are designed to reduce design time, reduce total development costs, and increase profits.

Rod Drake, vice president of products for Microchip MCU32 , said:

Studies have shown that when customers choose a microcontroller to implement embedded design, the software development ecosystem support system is much more important than any other factor. We collect a lot of feedback from our customers and put more work into it to make developers feel that our MPLAB Harmony software framework is better, faster, more efficient, and more useful. We know that our customers will be very happy with this latest upgrade, but we will continue to work hard to exceed their expectations.
