Acquisition of Honeywell is opening up the core bottleneck of the industry
Since successfully bidding for Honeywell's sapphire business in Canada in 2008, Silian Group has an overseas factory with an annual output of 500,000 sapphire substrates and a market channel connecting the world's top lighting equipment manufacturers such as Osram and Philips. It also includes Honeywell's unique world-class sapphire production and processing core technology.
Since then, Silian Group has been ambitious to build a complete sapphire substrate - LED industry chain. According to the plan, the annual output value of its LED industry base is expected to exceed 10 billion yuan.
Xiang Xiaobo, chairman of Silian Group, said in public: "Whoever has the core technology and production capacity of high-quality sapphire chips will break through the core bottleneck of the LED industry and become a pivotal force in the international LED industry chain."
The rapid expansion of sapphire capacity targets the world's top three
In 2009, Silian Group enrolled 1,000 acres in Caijia Town, Beibei District, Chongqing, with a total investment of 3 billion yuan to build LED Industrial Park. At present, the sapphire substrate products newly copied through technology have reached the overseas factory standard.
According to Gao Gong LED reporters from the internal high-level of the company, by the end of 2010, Silian has achieved 700,000 sapphire substrates per month for the world. And a year ago, this figure was the annual output of the Honeywell plant in the United States.
Regarding the future quadruple sapphire expansion plan, the company will gradually increase the crystal growth furnace. The original planned capacity of the Chongqing plant is 6 million pieces per year. By the end of 2012, the company will achieve a production capacity of 9 million pieces per year, which is aimed at the top three in the world.
