Overview The MAX8952 high-efficiency DC-DC step-down switching regulator delivers up to 2.5A of output current. The device operates from a 2.5V to 5.5V input voltage range and supports general-purpose battery technology in handheld products. The output voltage can be set from 0.77V to 1.40V through the I2C interface. Remote detection ensures accurate DC voltage at the load. The total output error is less than ±1.5% over the entire load, power supply, and temperature range. The IC operates at a fixed frequency of 3.25MHz, and the higher operating frequency greatly reduces the size of external components. The switching frequency of the converter can be synchronized to the system main clock. When synchronizing to an external clock, the IC measures the frequency of the external clock, ensuring that the clock is stable until the switching frequency is converted to the external clock frequency. The on-chip DAC allows the output voltage to be adjusted in steps of 10mV. The output voltage can be set directly through the I2C interface, or it can be preloaded into the on-chip registers, and then the appropriate registers can be selected using two VID logic signals. Other features of the device include internal soft-start control circuitry to reduce inrush current, output overvoltage, overcurrent, and overtemperature protection.
