At the beginning of the 20th century, in some large and medium-sized cities along the coast of China and the mainland, electric lighting has been widely used in industrial and commercial enterprises, public places and households. However, as a daylight industrial product for lighting fixtures, China has no ability to produce. At that time, the market that monopolized China was the light bulb of several foreign brands. In the face of the proliferation of foreign goods, the harsh situation of the national electrical appliance industry is extremely backward, which has inspired Hu Xiyuan’s strong desire to “manufacture domestic light bulbs†and determined that Chinese people must use Chinese-made light bulbs. (Hu Xiyuan was a college student of electromechanical majors in Zhejiang Higher Industrial School, who was only 20 years old at the time. In 1920, Hu Xiyuan came to Shanghai with the ideal of saving the country by industry. When he experimented with making light bulbs, he encountered a lot of difficulties. At the time, although the manufacturing process of the light bulb had sporadic introductions in domestic and foreign magazines, the technical data of the system could not be obtained. Second, although Hu Xiyuan learned some basic knowledge of electrical engineering in the university, it is not easy to step into the door of the new discipline of electric light source.
